Just how many amino acids are there in the best cat food?

Protein, for the best cat food, may be comprised of 22 different amino acids. Some can be synthesized; the remainder are considered essential amino acids (EAA) and are obtained only through the diet.

Taurine is an EAA for cats, and it is only obtained from meat in Superpremium cat food. In Superpremium dog food, sufficient Taurine synthesis occurs from the sulfur containing amino acids methionine and cystine, so it is not an EAA.

A special considerations for Cats.  Crystals were initially thought to be caused by “ash” in the diet, but that is not necessarily true. It was also thought to be caused by a “high” magnesium content.

Struvite crystals prefer not to grow in an acidic urine. An acidic urine is easily achieved using a Petcurean Cat Food high meat-based diet. It is also important to create a dilute urine by increasing fluid intake.
