Berry interesting: berries and their benefits

Fresh berries

It’s finally summer & the local markets are just bursting with beautiful little berries. We don’t know about you, but they always inspire new epicurean creations for us, like delicious pies, cobblers, jams and of course, our NOW FRESH recipes for cats and dogs. Yup, all of our NOW FRESH recipes contain cranberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. These delicious berries have many sweet benefits for our pets, as they are chock full of antioxidants and important nutrients that help your dog and cat fight disease.

  • Cranberries are high in antioxidants, a great source of fibre, Vitamin C, Vitamin K and manganese, and they aid in urinary tract health.
  •  Blueberries contain “anthocyanin” which is the pigment that makes blueberries blue. Anthocyanin is known to lower the risk of certain cancers, aid in urinary tract health, memory function, and healthy aging.
  • Blackberries are rich in “anthocyanins”, which are antioxidants that help fight damage in the body.
  • Raspberries are high in “ellagic acid” which is known to fight diseases by killing micro-organisms that are harmful and also has shown to have anti-inflammatory properties.
